On American Idol, Are the Guys Out of Wild Card Consideration?
February 27, 2009 by Tom Raley
We have now seen groups one and two from season 8 of American Idol and six of the final 12 singers selected. Unlike in years past, this year American Idol producers have added three wild card selections. After group three performs, there will still be three spots left in the final twelve.
The four judges will call back selected performers from among those eliminated. The judges will then select the final three contestants. Until the results of group two were known, there was a great deal of speculation on who might still have a chance from those eliminated. After Thursday night, we may not have all the answers, but the field is definitely shrinking.
Already in the final twelve of American Idol season 8 are Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver, Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Do a little math and you will quickly see there are four guys and two girls. America will select at least one more guy from group three, possibly two. If two guys are picked from group three that will leave no wild card slots for any of the guys who have been eliminated. This is assuming the American Idol producers will still have an equal number of men and women in the final twelve. If only one guy is selected from group three this will leave one wild card slot for the thirteen guys eliminated. Talk about tough odds.
