American Idol: Second Group Of 12 Semifinalists To Perform On A New Night

Last week on American Idol, over twenty-four million votes were cast to determine which three out of the first group of twelve semifinalists would become members of the top twelve finalists. The lucky three, whose dream of becoming the next American Idol will continue, were Alexis Grace from Memphis, Tennessee; Michael Sarver from Jasper, Texas; and Danny Gokey from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Once again song choice proved to be a critical factor, as the judges chastised several of the semifinalists for selecting the wrong song. The songs that did the trick for the three that are continuing on the competition were “I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You” by Aretha Franklin, “I Don’t Want To Be” by Gavin DeGraw and “Hero” by Mariah Carey.

While the American Idol performance show traditionally airs on Tuesday nights, President Barack Obama is giving a State of the Union address this Tuesday night. In order to air the President’s address on Tuesday, FOX has moved the two-hour long American Idol performance show to Wednesday night for this week. The live results show which usually airs on Wednesday night has also been pushed back to now air on Thursday night.

On Wednesday, February 25 from 8 PM to 10 PM ET on FOX, the second group of twelve semifinalists will perform. The second group consists of Kris Allen, Matt Breitzke, Megan Joy Corkrey, Matt Giraud, Mishavonna Henson, Allison Iraheta, Kai Kalama, Adam Lambert, Jesse Langseth, Nick Mitchell, Jasmine Murray and Jeanine Vailes. On Thursday, February 26 from 8 PM to 9 PM ET on FOX, the next three semifinalists to advance to the top twelve will be revealed.
